On Resolutions
New year’s resolutions? Not my thing - at least not in that “new year, new me” way that floods our feeds every January.
Don’t get me wrong - I’m all for resolutions. I could dive into my whole philosophy on this, but let’s save that rabbit hole for another post.
What I do embrace is setting intentions - resolutions, goals, or commitments, whichever rings one’s biased bells best. Like many others, I use them to chart the big moves I want to make throughout the year.
And here’s the thing - they need muscle behind them. Real plans, actual behaviour shifts, the works. As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry put it, “a goal without a plan is just a dream.”
So what’s my take on this whole new year resolution frenzy? I use it as my personal checkpoint - a moment to look at which habits stuck, which ones didn’t, and where I need to level up. Think of it as a final reality check as the calendar flips.
Speaking of reality checks - I’m behind on one of my key goals: getting more writing out into the world. Sure, I could dust off one of those countless drafts sitting in my notes, but that’s harder for me than I care to admit. Instead, I’m taking a different approach - sharing more snapshots of my daily journey, unpolished and real.
If this resonates with your thoughts and experiences, let’s make this a conversation. Find me on X or bsky.
When do I set my goals, you wonder? At the start of a new year. Mine.
